Since the seventh century, September 1 has been celebrated in the Byzantine tradition as a day marking the
creation of the world and the beginning of the church year. On Creation in Christ Sunday, we celebrate God’s
ongoing work of creation through Christ, who sustains, unites, and holds all things together. We hear of the triune God who created the sun and moon, the shining stars, the creatures of the sea, the birds of the air—and, yes, even human beings. God continues to care for all of creation and invites us to join in that work as caretakers of this beautiful world God has made.
